Economic Facts & Fallacies- Thomas Sowell

I just finished yet another great book by perhaps my favorite author Thomas Sowell. Now, honestly I've read him write on the same theme time and again within his columns. This book, though, was those same concepts fleshed out.

The book discusses the use of statistics and sketchy evidence to create a fallacious modern world view. For example. when comparing the very richest nations to the very poorest, what isn't discussed is that the "very poorest" nations of yesterday are not the very poorest today. The problem with cross comparisons of idealized groups is that most often, a cross comparison isn't really valid (apples & oranges).

I enjoyed the book. I recommend all of Dr. Sowell's books. Probably my best recommendations would be "A Conflict of Visions" and "Black Rednecks and White Liberals."

Since I've imposed a moratorium on book buying on myself, I'm going to finish up "The Early Christian Doctrines" and "Severus of Antioch" if it kills me.
